How to create a persona (with example and template!)

It's time to pin point who your ideal client is by creating a buyer persona.

What is a persona

A persona is a profile of your ideal client. It is a tool used in communication and helps you to understand your target audience better.

How to create a persona

You will create a fictional person that symbolizes your ideal client. Start by building up a profile with information that could be relevant for your communication and marketing purposes. It will help you target more specifically.

1. Basic information

This is useful information that can help you with your content. It is also relevant when you want to target a specific audience with ads.

  • Age

  • Gender

  • Location

  • Relationship status

  • Family

  • Hobbies

  • Interests

  • Etc.

2. Biography

  • Background (b.v. origin, upbringing, birth place, etc.)

  • Living situation (b.v. partner, children, work, social circle, memberships, etc.)

  • Current life situation (B.v. children moving out, lost job, etc.)

  • Etc.

3. Motivations

  • Motives

  • Desires

  • Passions

4. Goals

  • Short term

  • Long term

5. Frustrations

  • Problems

  • Stumbling blocks

  • Blockades

6. Personality

  • Introvert or extravert

  • Thinking or feeling

  • Judging or perceiving

  • Sensing or intuition

  • Etc.

7. Technology and media usage

This is relevant when you're making content or ads. What are your audience's online experiences? An older audience would give you different results compared to younger generations.

  • Social media apps

  • Software

  • Internet

8. Brands

Name the brands and organizations that your persona is affiliated with based on their interests.

  • Apps

  • Websites

  • Brands

  • Etc.
